Helping Indians to Help Indians Ltd was registered in November 2019 at Companies House. It is a not-for profit entity whose sole purpose is to financially support and empower the Ganga Learning Centre in Samne Ghat, Varanasi (Benares), India.

The Centre provides opportunities for adults and children. Our school gives education to 4 to 8 year olds who would otherwise receive none. We supplement their poor diets, and we feed their minds. As well as a basic education in Hindi, Mathematics and English they learn basic IT skills, including Skype Lessons from volunteer teachers in the UK. We encourage overseas visitors to help in the School, broadening pupils' horizons beyond Samne Ghat.

Local adults undertake training in language, writing, hygiene and vocational skills. Many are employed by us, at fair trade rates to produce clothes, bags and throws. This allows them to achieve financial independence, often financing their children’s further education. Our long-term goal is to assist our first students into higher education, truly changing lives.

We also support a Music Academy, allowing pupils to gain employment in the arts. Our sitars were made by the same craftsmen who suppled Ravi Shankar's family for five generations, and George Harrison - a fine pedigree!

Unemployment is high in Samne Ghat, and some employers are sexual predators. We offer an alternative route by supporting those excellent Indians who demand change. Grassroots change is happening, through empowering local people.

All this costs money. Pre-Covid the Centre cost £600 per month to run, and since Covid we have supported the employees and locals at a cost of £400. Children often have only one set of clothing. We now supply school uniforms at a cost of £15 per child. That is an additional bill of £550 a year. Your money goes far.£6.00 will feed 35 children including Rani the Cook's salary!

Helping Indians to Help Indians Ltd does what it says. We collect donations, organise fund raising events, and In the Spring and Summer we sell items made in the Centre at the Buttermarket, Ludlow, Shropshire. It is very important to us that you know that every penny you donate or spend with us goes to India in its entirety. Accountancy and administration costs are borne quite separately by the Directors. All travel costs to Varanasi are likewise self financed. Your money is too precious not to go direct to the Learning Centre.

We need your help to help these people to help themselves. They don't want handouts, they want financial independence in ways that seem staggeringly modest to us. If you can help, please contact Paul Knight at helpsamne@outlook.com
